Australian Stock Horse Society
The Australian Stock Horse is possibly the world’s most versatile horse and is often referred to as ‘the breed for every need’.
For the first time at the Australian National Field Days we have horses as the feature exhibit.
The Australian Stock Horse is renowned for its toughness, endurance, resilience and strength. The feature will showcase the vast industries associated with the stock horse using visual, audio visual and practical demonstrations.
The Australian Stock Horse Society was established in 1971 in Scone, NSW. They have a membership of more than 9,300 individuals and have in excess of 180,000 registered horses. General Manager David Gatwood says they are ‘Honoured to receive the invitation as the feature exhibit for the 2017
Australian National Field Days’.
This years Education Section will carry on the theme of ‘The Horse’ and include talks and displays on all aspects of horse care. Nutrition, breeding technology, artificial insemination and embryo transplant
(AI & ET), management of the mare and foal, management in disasters- bush fires etc, pastures and weeds both beneficial and harmful will also be displayed and incorporated in presentations.
Dr. John Kohnke- vet and author, will be delivering seminars over the three days embracing topics such as management of gastric ulcers, laminitis, lower back injuries and tying up.
Dr. David Searle – Central West Equine, developed Embryonix (an equine reproductive practice) and was the first in Australia to commercially freeze equine embryo’s. An expert in horse breeding and reproduction,
he will be conducting presentations over the three days.
There will be an open forum on each day where the public are invited to come along and ask questions. The Australian Stock Horse Society exhibit will include a Heritage Centre, providing history of Horses at War and ASH Legends. A Breed Village with talks and demonstrations, ‘Stan’s Stable with horse
simulator and the ASHS Lodge where you can learn all about the Stock Horse society membership and horse registration benefits.
