Innovation, Trust, & Technology: Future of Aussie Sheep Farming
BreedElite - ANFD 2025

At the Australian National Field Days (ANFD), innovation is always on display, but few brands capture that spirit as boldly as BreedElite. After taking out the NAB Agribusiness Award of Excellence, we caught up with Tim from BreedElite to talk about their recognition, their bold approach to tech and customer trust, and what to expect at this year’s event.

Q: What did winning the NAB Agribusiness Award of Excellence mean to the BreedElite team?

“As a small business, we’re often competing with much larger, more established brands. We’re not a household name, yet, so this kind of recognition really helps us break through. It gives us visibility and credibility that we can share across our socials and networks. It’s about being seen and trusted. Every bit of exposure helps us grow toward becoming that household name we aim to be.”

Q: Where is BreedElite currently positioned in the industry, and what’s ahead?

“We’ve come a long way in the sheep breeding space. Right now, we’re in a really exciting phase of development. We’re taking everything we’ve learned over the last six or seven years and using it to mature and refine our products.”

“Our flagship product, The Smart Drafter, has had significant upgrades over the past year. We’ve added pre-drafting modules and introduced new automation technologies. But beyond the tech, we’re also innovating how farmers access our solutions.”

“One of our biggest moves has been launching a six-month risk-free trial. No other business offers that. Farmers can trial our gear on-farm with full data support and training. If it’s not a fit, they get a full refund. That’s how committed we are.”

Q: Tell us more about how BreedElite builds trust with farmers.

“It’s about removing the need for blind trust. Every product gets mixed reviews, good or bad, so we give farmers the chance to form their own opinion without risk. It’s about giving them control.”

“We also back our gear with serious warranties: a three-year unlimited warranty, plus a ten-year limited warranty, and that covers all components, not just surface finishes. It’s clear, simple, and designed to give farmers peace of mind.”

Q: How is BreedElite driving innovation in ag tech? Are you building tech in-house or adapting existing tools?

“Definitely innovating in-house. We’re not just improving what we already have; we’re creating new tools to solve problems no one else is addressing.”

“For example, we’re developing products that integrate with any sheep drafter, not just ours. We’re working toward automating sheep jobs to make the entire process more efficient. That’s our vision: solve problems at every step, for every type of producer.”

Q: Why is ANFD an important event for you and your customers?

“ANFD is a massive event for the ag industry. It would leave a big hole if it weren’t there. All of our competitors are at ANFD, so for us, it’s vital to show up, connect with customers, and share what’s new.”

“There’s also a strong focus on ag tech at ANFD, and we appreciate that. The event genuinely supports and recognises innovation, which gives businesses like ours a real chance to stand out.”

Q: What can attendees expect from BreedElite at ANFD this year?

“This year we’ll be showcasing some brand-new products, especially around sheep auto-drafting lead-ups. These units are designed to stop animals from doubling up in the drafter, a huge issue during lamb weighing.”

“We’ve created a new sheep segregation unit that’s simple but powerful. It’s something we believe could become a new industry standard. So, visitors can expect practical innovation, tech that solves real problems, and maybe even another award!”
